Title: The Quest of Dai: The Eroe
Author: Vivian Marie Aubin du Paris
Format: Paperback & E-book
Blurb: Diamond "Dai" Gold is an eighteen-year-old whose peaceful existence shatters when she awakens in a world straight from a fairy tale, instantly immersed in a desperate fight for her life. Her adventure continues as she plunges further into the world and discovers that not only is her past intertwined with this world, but that it is her destiny to save it from destruction and rule by a dangerous group known as the Malo. In a world where deception and secrets run rampant, Dai must decide which side she can really trust. Armed only with the protection of a boy who'd rather trade her life than protect it, Dai has many secrets to discover on her perilous journey to save this world, and herself in the process.
The Quest of Dai: The Eroe is a coming of age story with a difference. Imagine that you're an awkard, shy teenager living in the shadow of your beautiful best friend. Finally, you get everything you want on prom night, only to have it snatched from you as you're propelled into a fantasy world rife with combat and adventure.
Dai's story is one of self-discovery as well as high fantasy. You'll marvel at the intricate fantasy world the author weaves around her shy yet headstrong protagonist, and you'll cheer when Dai begins to overcome her shock and sorrow at being plucked from her world, and begins to blossom. Her relationship with Westly, one of the elite Eroe, a band of warriors, is a particular favourite of mine. One minute tender, one minute sparring, Dai and Westly are a delight to travel with.
There's also a wonderful cast of supporting characters - my favourite is Grandma, a wise, kind old woman you'll want to take home with you. You'll also find yourself taken in by the handsome faery-like men who populate this world, but don't let your guard down, not everything is as it seems!
At just over four hundred pages, The Quest of Dai is an epic read. Take up the challenge. You won't regret it.
